Kelly Sunday-schools you on the Bible

I've always said my little brother is smarter than me (not as handsome, but smarter).  Here are his thoughts on the Bible and gays:

I actually made two posts.  Here was the first one in regards to the quote from Romans...

The words in The Book of Romans are not the words of Jesus. That is Paul speaking. And if you believe Paul, keep in mind that he forbids women to discuss matters of religion. So all you women, please stop sinning up this thread.

Jesus never spoke out against homosexuality. Guess what? He also didn't speak out against premarital sex, didn't speak out against birth control, but did speak out against public prayer and the death penalty. He also had brown skin and long hair. But that's only if you believe what's in the Bible.

And this is the second post that shut everyone in the thread down.

Jesus clearly states that he has two commandments to get into Heaven: Love God with all of your heart, and treat everyone as you would want to be treated. That's it. If you are bickering over what other rules and regulations you must follow to be holy, you are acting like the Pharisees, which Jesus himself chastised for taking the Bible too literal.

All of these gay-bashing verses that people cher
ry-pick to validate their own homophobia occurs in the Old Testament. The problem with this is that Jesus fulfilled the old law, so we are not bound to live by those rules. If we were, we’d still be sacrificing goats to wash away our sins.

Also, the lesson from Sodom and Gomorrah was about how to treat strangers with kindness and hospitality, which Jesus himself pointed out. That’s what HE gleaned from that story, and that’s what you should as well. The villagers wanted to RAPE the Angels, not have a consensual, loving relationship with them. If you don’t understand the difference between rape and love, then there’s no hope for you.

The only verse in the New Testament that remotely discusses homosexuality is in Romans, but again, this is not Jesus talking, it is Paul (who also forbids women to speak on the subject of Religion). And it is not talking about a consensual, loving relationship. It’s talking about lust, and giving into unnatural desire. The word unnatural is key here. To say homosexuality isn’t natural is ignorant. Homosexuality occurs in nature, and many other species have been documented with homosexual activities and even engage in homosexual relationships. So by definition, homosexuality is not unnatural…but hating homosexuals is a choice

And using the Bible to validate your own prejudice by using passages out of context is also ignorant and abusive. It just proves that this person doesn’t actually read or understand the Bible. If you take the Bible literally, then you must also abandon your family. Yes, Jesus commanded that his followers abandon their families. That’s what he said, whether you like it or not. And it states that only 144,000 souls are going to Heaven (I guess Heaven has a fire code) and only those souls who have not been defiled by women. So that leaves out the straight guys.

Love God with all of your heart, and treat everyone as you would want to be treated. That's it, guys. That’s what you're supposed to do. Unless you want people to treat you with unwarranted prejudice and hatred, you’ve missed the message Jesus was trying to make.
